OEM, ODM, and Private Label: Which Fits Your Program?
| Model | What it means | Design ownership | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private label | Our proven constructions in your colorways, with your logo, labels, and packing | Factory keeps construction; artwork and colorways are yours | Fast launch, low development risk |
| OEM | Built to your tech pack: your dimensions, fill, materials, trims | Yours — built to the approved sample | Established brands with a tested design |
| ODM | We develop a line from your brief — construction, colorways, collection story | Shared at development; branding is yours at production | A distinctive line without in-house design staff |
Most buyers blend them: an OEM base with private label branding. Our OEM saddle pad program guide covers embroidery and colorwork in more depth.
The Private Label Process, Step by Step
- Brief. Share a tech pack, reference samples, colorways, and logo artwork — a clear factory brief is the biggest determinant of whether samples arrive right.
- Materials. Confirm face fabric, fill, binding, and hardware — including whether your artwork suits embroidery or sublimation, which need different face fabrics.
- Sample. A counter sample to spec: your logo digitized, your binding, your fill stack — then one pre-production \gold seal\ for final sign-off.
- Bulk production. Cut, quilted, bound, embroidered, and finished to the gold seal, with stitching and binding checked in-line.
- Private label packing. Your hang tags, woven labels, care inserts, and branded cartons, packed to your carton spec and shipped on your terms.
Timelines depend on revision rounds and trim sourcing, so they are confirmed per order — see our typical MOQ and lead-time bands.
What You Can Customize
Logo and branding
- Embroidery: logos, crests, and monograms on the pad\’s front corner or both sides — digitized in-house from your vector artwork, with a strike-off on your fabric before bulk.
- Sublimation: all-over prints and bold graphics — on polyester-based face fabrics only, never on pure cotton. Compare methods in our custom branding guide.
Colors, shape, and construction
- Custom colors and seasonal colorway families — planned per color, since MOQ runs 50 pieces per color. Contrast binding, piping, and trims matched to your palette, with lab-dip approval.
- Dressage squares, all-purpose and jumping profiles, western pads, half pads, and shimable correction pads with shim pockets — sizes pony, cob, and full, or to your own size program.
- Quilting pattern (diamond, channel, chevron), cell size, and stitch density to your spec; fill conditional by use — wool felt breathes where heat builds up, foam and gel suit closer-contact preferences.
- Binding material, width, and color; girth straps, billet keepers, and D-rings to your hardware spec. Western programs add tooled wear guards and woven blanket tops — see our western design guide.
- Packing: individual polybags with branded care inserts, custom cartons, barcodes, and assortment packing per your SKU plan.
MOQ and Sampling
Private label saddle pads run at MOQ 50 pieces per color. Each colorway is its own line: 50 navy and 50 burgundy is two MOQs, not one. Free samples let you check construction and colorwork before committing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What artwork do you need for our logo?
Vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) are ideal; a high-resolution PNG works. We digitize embroidery ourselves and send a strike-off on your actual face fabric — stitch density and thread color lock at that stage, not in bulk.
Can you match our brand\’s exact colors?
Yes — via lab dips approved per production run under consistent lighting. Cotton and polyester faces can take the same dye differently, so each face fabric gets its own dip.
Do you hold RWS, OEKO-TEX, or GRS certification?
We do not claim certifications we do not hold. Material test reports — fiber composition, color fastness, dimensional stability — are provided on request.
Can we start with a single pad style?
Yes. Many brands launch with one profile — often a dressage square or all-purpose pad — in two or three colorways, then add half pads, correction models, or matching boots and girth covers. Our launch guide maps that sequence.
Which product lines can carry our private label?
All saddle pad families, half pads and correction pads, the sheepskin line, girths and cinches, horse boots, horse blankets and rugs, bridles, reins, and halters. Pricing context: our private label pricing guide for tack shops.
